[members] Build Season Initial Schedule

Hello All,

Per our meeting last night (Monday Jan 9, 2012), we finalized a strategy for our offensive shooting / balancing robot. Based on this decision, we were able to put together a timeline of milestone dates that are needed. Below are the milestones that we defined (we will work to see if we can get these input into an online calendar).

1/10/12 - Drive train defined

1/11/12 - Shooter/launcher, floor pickup and targeting system defined

1/12/12 - Initial drive train prototype complete

1/14/12 - Drive train components designed, moving drive train prototype complete

1/16/12 - Initial shooter/launcher and floor pickup design completed

1/19/12 - Bridge tipper design completed

1/21/12 - Frame design completed, working shooter/launcher and floor pickup prototype complete

1/24/12 - Final shooter/launcher and floor pickup design completed

1/25/12 - Bridge tipper prototype completed

1/28/12 - All components manufactured

2/4/12 - Robot assembled, handed over to Program/electrical for fine tune/debug (and Hybrid)

2/14/12 - Robot Complete!

We will need to add in additional dates as we go, since this is just an initial calendar for building the robot, but I wanted to get it out for everyone as soon as possible.

Just a reminder that we will have a parents night Tomorrow night, Thursday Jan 5, at 5:30pm at the robotics building, 563 E 64^th street. Near the Airport.

This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the robotics program and what it can offer to your student.

Hello Everyone,

Hard to believe but kickoff is a little more than a week away. With that said we need to get together to make sure we are ready for the new season.

Our next meeting is Tuesday January 3^rd and 5^th at the robotics building, 5:30pm-8pm. Please bring your friends. We would like to get everyone set up into the sub-teams and start working together on tasks in preparation for the new season.

Saturday is the Mock kickoff at GVSU Eberhard Center in Downtown Grand Rapids. We will be meeting at the robotics building at 7:15am and leaving at 7:30 sharp. It’s happening once again, robotics season is right around the corner.

For the students who are interested in working on the design of the robot, one of the tools we use to design the robot is Autodesk Inventor. This is an industrial program that many companies use to model their products.

Autodesk has been gracious enough to donate their software to us at no cost. You can download this software at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=17355061

Be sure to check the system requirements to be sure that you can try this software.

Once you get started, there are tutorials located under the ‘getting started’ tab.

There are also many instructional videos at youtube.com. I have found that many of the videos by Rob Cohee are very helpful.

Autodesk inventor has been a great tool for us to use. I strongly urge anyone interested to try it out.

[members] Team activity Thursday Nov 17

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that we will be meeting this Thursday at 5:30pm to continue with our 5-S activity.

Last Thursday we started moving things around and throwing things away. We have cleared some rack space and combined the chairman’s stuff into the room with the animation team. The old chairman’s room will now become the new electrical room. We have moved all the cabinets out and need to finish the process. This will be our last meeting until December when we will be increasing our activities for the start of the regular season.

Please come out and help make our space ready.

Also, this Saturday there is a training opportunity in Wyoming to learn PTC CAD software. This will include MathCAD and WindChill. The use of any of the three softwares is required for grant from PTC as a sponsor. Please let me know if you are coming so I can make reservations. Please reply to this email.
